The Chair is organising together with the Maritime Law Association of South Africa (MLASA) and the South African Branch of the International Law Association (SABILA) a conference on "The 2050 Africa Integrated Maritime (AIM) Strategy: Legal Challenges and Opportunities" at NMMU on 13-14 November 2014.

This is the first of what is hoped to become an annual event under the auspices of the Chair, the MLASA and SABILA, to bring together South African academics, practitioners and postgraduate students, as well as foreign experts, to share their work in the field of marine law and maritime law with a specific focus on South Africa and the whole continent.

The focus of this year's Conference is the 2050 AIM Strategy and, more specifically, the legal challenges and opportunities associated with it.

The Conference is taking place immediately after the 2014 African Maritime Domain Conference held in Nelson Mandela Bay on 10-12 November 2014.
