South African Research Chair in the Law of the Sea and Development in Africa
Welcome to the website of the South African Research Chair in the Law of the Sea and Development in Africa, hosted by the Faculty of Law and part of the Institute for Coastal and Marine Research Nelson Mandela University, funded by the Department of Science and Innovation and managed by the National Research Foundation.
The Chair hosts the Journal of Ocean Governance in Africa (JOGA) and the multi-volume book project on The Law of the Sea: Contemporary Norms and Practice in Africa. The Chair is part of the One Ocean Hub, the Ocean Accounts Framework Community of Practice and the Algoa Bay Community of Practice. The Chair is also responsible for the delivery of the LLM (Ocean Governance) coursework programme.
