South African Research Chair in the Law of the Sea and Development in Africa

Zintle Siwisa-Thompson  was previously head of Banking and Finance at Dlamini Attorney’s  and prior to joining  Dlamini she was general counsel for Hansaconsult ME JLT advising the company on corporate legal matters. She previously acted as a senior legal consultant in the Capital Markets and Investment Banking group at a Dubai based firm in the United Arab Emirates advising on legal matters related to corporate and capital markets. She started her career in corporate commercial litigation and later moved to join the forbes group in South Africa.

Zintle is admitted to practice as an attorney in South Africa and holds an LLB from the University of Port Elizabeth and Masters in Law (LLM) in International Economic Law from the University of South Africa with a focus on the protection of corporations under the Anti-Money Laundering legislations. Her research  topic was Money Laundering Regulatory Framework a Global Threat to Cross-  Border Investment Vehicles - Finding Ways to Protect Legitimate Cross- Border Investment Vehicles.

She has also acted as head of department for a Dubai-based international law firm advising corporate and private clients on asset protection. She has been able to combine a range of legal disciplines and is focused in her particular area of specialization. A part of her experience she has acted as legal advisor on a US$7.5bn Middle East fund raising project for a Malaysian-led oil and gas consortium. She has also acted as lead counsel for an energy company advising the company in creating a private equity fund to target the oil, gas and power industries in Sub-Saharan Africa.
